Hair Brushing Song

Many people want to know the song that I sing while brushing the children’s hair in the video.  It’s a folk song, so there are many versions of it.  I’ll give you the words that I learned, and then I’ll also give you a video of a lovely version that I like as well, sung by Jackie Oates.

My version:

Lavender’s Blue, dilly dilly, lavender’s green

When I am king, dilly dilly, you shall be queen.

Call out your men, dilly dilly, set them to work

Some to the plow, dilly dilly, some to the cart.

Some to make hay, dilly dilly, some to cut corn

And you and I, dilly dilly, keep ourselves warm.
